I lived in Stockport from 1982 to 2020, and until this happened I hadn't even known that we had a bishop ... and I don't believe that any of my friends had either!
(That probably says quite a lot about me, and the company I keep.)
Turns out that Stockport has had a suffragan bishop since 1949. He or she is one of two suffrogan bishops in the Diocese of Chester. In the Anglican Communion, a suffragan bishop is one who is subordinate to a metropolitan bishop or diocesan bishop (bishop ordinary) and so is not normally 'jurisdictional' in their role. (I think this just means an assistant or auxiliary bishop.)
Libby Lane was appointed as (Diocesan) Bishop of Derby in 2019. Samuel 'Sam' Corley was appointed in 2021 to succeed her as Bishop of Stockport.
